Hotel Type

Mountain Resort

A rambling French manor on the banks of Lac du Tremblant one hour from Montreal, it's the most picturesque luxury hotel to date in the Laurentians offering oversize accommodations in a boutique-style environment. Guests arrive to a stone porte-cochere with two-story wooden doors and attendants in heavy-overcoats scrambling for bags and ski equipment. The main lobby is decorated in traditional Country-French featuring a Q-shaped spiral staircase and magnificent fireplace roaring in all-seasons. The owners had the misfortune of an in-room fire in their inaugural season, closing the hotel for several months as work was completed on the top floors.

Since then, the wood-burning fireplaces have been strictly controlled (during our visit they were not working due to permit-problems but we were given a $50 credit- which we had to ask for upon check-out). A small spa area overlooks the lake connecting to a scenic infinity pool, sadly is not heated in winter. The fitness center leaves much to be desired, located in a windowless room in the basement with no more than a few cardio-machines and free weights. Perhaps the Canadians aren't in all the great shape under their wooly-ski clothes? The basement features a groovy pub-style bar adjacent to its signature restaurant - where complimentary breakfast buffet is served in the morning.

The hotel is within walking distance of Tremblant's Interwest Village, but far enough away not to tire of the disappointing village architecture. Regular transportation to the ski lifts is available, even though it's close enough to walk in all weather conditions.
The Room

The hotel features 30 well-sized suites ranging from 700 to over 1200-square feet located over five floors featuring head-on lake views. Built for skiers demanding space, most rooms are comfortably luxurious with oversized sofas and lounge chairs arranged around a real wood-burning fireplace. Each offers a small walkout terrace or large patio with table and chairs more practical in summer than frigid winter months. Living rooms feature beam ceiling and wood-detailing with bedroom and living areas separated by sliding French doors. Bedrooms feature window-nooks with writing desks and armoire entertainment center, in a free-flowing space that opens directly into the bathroom. A highlight of the hotel, each bathroom features enamel claw-foot bathtubs with heated-marble floors as well as separate rain shower and toilet alcove.
